CORE PURPOSE
The examiner/marker will support academic excellence by developing, evaluating and/or marking assessments that uphold the principles of validity, reliability, fairness and consistency, while ensuring alignment with programme outcomes, NQF level descriptors and institutional quality assurance standards.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Key Performance Area (KPA)
- Develop and/or review formative and summative assessments, including examination papers, supplementary papers, marking memoranda and rubrics.
- Ensure assessments are aligned to module outcomes, programme outcomes and SAQA NQF requirements.
- Mark student submissions accurately and consistently using approved memoranda and rubrics.
- Provide constructive and meaningful feedback to students where required.
- Participate in Marker Check Meetings and other quality assurance activities.
- Implement moderation recommendations and approved mark adjustments where applicable.
- Submit all allocated work within prescribed timelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with institutional policies and POPIA requirements
Minimum requirements
QUALIFICATION(S)
· A relevant qualification at least one NQF level higher than the programme or module for which appointment is sought (Examiners).
· A relevant qualification appropriate to the NQF level of the programme or module being marked (Markers).
· Professional registration (where applicable) will be advantageous.
EXPERIENCE
· Minimum of two (2) years' experience in Higher Education.
· Experience in lecturing, assessment development, marking, examining or related academic activities.
· Demonstrated experience in developing and/or marking assessments in Higher Education.
· Experience in online or distance education environments will be advantageous.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
· Strong subject matter expertise in the relevant discipline.
· Excellent assessment design and evaluation skills.
· Sound understanding of outcomes-based assessment and NQF level requirements.
· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Excellent written communication skills.
· Ability to meet strict deadlines and work independently.
· Strong digital literacy and ability to work on online assessment platforms.
ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS:
· No undisclosed conflict of interest. An External Examiner may hold other academic duties at MANCOSA (such as facilitating, research supervision or marking) but may not concurrently serve as Moderator for the same module.
· Evidence of scholarly activity, professional practice or industry contribution in the relevant field.
· Prior experience in assessment examination processes.
· Availability to work within prescribed assessment cycles.
