Academic: Accounting/Business Studies Teaching Specialisations An academic is responsible for ensuring high-quality academic delivery, assessment, curriculum development, and student support across designated modules. This role supports the academic mission of MANCOSA by driving excellence in teaching and learning, enhancing the student learning experience, contributing to research and community engagement, and maintaining academic standards in line with institutional policies and strategies.
Job description

CORE FUNCTIONS INCLUDE: 

 Academic Delivery  

  • Facilitate modules via webinars or face-to-face sessions. 

  • Ensure alignment with MANCOSA’s Teaching and Learning Strategy. 

  • Develop high-quality academic content for the Learner Management System (LMS) 

  • Quality assurance and sign-off of allocated modules 

  • Respond to student queries within 24 hours via the “Ask the Lecturer” platform. 

 

Assessments  

  • Set, mark, and moderate assessments for allocated modules. 

  • Ensure quality assurance and sign-off of all assessments. 

  • Participate in AVC and pre-/post-assessment moderation processes. 

 

Curriculum Development  

  • Review and update module guides; ensure consistency across academic materials. 

  • Contribute to curriculum enhancements and documentation. 

  • Write, moderate, or update module guides (remuneration applicable after first instance). 

 

Student Learning Experience  

  • Manage daily academic operations for assigned modules. 

  • Develop innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement. 

  • Monitor student progress and provide academic support. 

 

Research, Scholarship, and Community Engagement 

  • Undertake and lead research projects with measurable academic and community impact. 

  • Supervise honours and master’s students. 

  • Engage in collaborative community initiatives. 

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

·       A Master’s Degree in Accounting and/or Business Studies Teaching Specializations

·       At least 2/3 years lecturing experience; Accounting and/or Business Studies Teaching Specializations.

·       School based experience, teaching CAPS

·       Demonstrate research engagement over last 3 years

 

RELATED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

        Be familiar with distance and online education

        Be familiar with using learning management systems

        Have a working knowledge of the South African higher education regulatory framework

        Must be able to work within pre-determined time frames and deadlines

        Must be able to speak confidently and demonstrate professionalism

        Must be a collegial team player

        Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, Internet and Email)

        Excellent writing and reporting skills

        Possess a high level of ethics and confidentiality
