MANCOSA, a DHET registered and CHE accredited private higher education distance education provider, offering undergraduate and postgraduate business qualifications, has the following vacancy available: Ethical Clearance Officer Purpose of the Role The Ethics Reviewer plays a critical role in ensuring that all research proposals submitted for ethical review adhere to the highest standards of research integrity, participant protection, and ethical compliance. The incumbent will evaluate research proposals and appendices to ensure that they meet institutional, national, and international ethical guidelines.
Job description

Key Responsibilities

  •    Review research proposals to assess ethical soundness, methodological rigour, and compliance with institutional and statutory guidelines.
  •        Evaluate consent procedures, risk-benefit analyses, data management, and participant protection measures.
  •        Provide constructive feedback to applicants to support ethical and methodologically sound research practices.
  •        Participate in committee meetings to deliberate and decide on research ethics applications.
  •        Collaborate with fellow reviewers and the broader team to ensure consistency, fairness, and timeliness in ethics review outcomes.
  •        Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling all application materials and committee discussions.
  •        Contribute to policy development and continuous improvement of ethics review processes.
  •        Stay informed of emerging trends, legislation, and best practices in research ethics and integrity.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Education, Business, or related discipline).
  • Demonstrated experience in research methodology and applied research.
  • Proven understanding of research ethics principles and ethical review processes.
  • TTREE Training Certification (modules 1, 2 and 3 minimum)
  • Prior experience serving on or working with a Research Ethics Committee (advantageous).
