Introduction
MANCOSA seeks the services of a Counsellor to be based at the Durban Learning Centre. The Counsellor will be required to provide an effective and confidential counselling service to students and employees.
Job description
CORE FUNCTIONS:
- Provide an effective and confidential counselling service (usually short-term counselling) to students and staff
- To refer students and staff to other support services and agencies as appropriate
- To participate in developing service provision and working practice
- Participate in the pastoral care process between staff and students
- To support academic staff in their pastoral role with students
- To establish and maintain close links with a wide range of academic and administrative staff
- Manage compliance to legal and professional requirements for the services rendered
- Ensure adherence to the ethical framework of the appropriate professional body
- Ensure registration with the relevant professional body
- Ensure the required CPD points are acquired per annum to maintain professional registration
- Maintain records and statistics on all cases referred
- Provide monthly progress reports whilst maintaining confidentiality
- Ensure confidentiality contracts are maintained for each case
- Store records in line with the confidentiality requirements
- Report on the results of intervention measures employed for both staff and students
- Provide additional support to ‘students at risk’
- To develop relevant training and development initiatives for students and staff
- Undertake training initiatives as and when required as per agreement
- Recommend and suggest new training initiatives available
- Collaborate with key stakeholders on a range of issues
- Report to Management on collaboration initiatives with stakeholders

Minimum requirements
QUALIFICATION:
- Masters Qualification in Counselling/ Industrial Psychology/ Educational Psychology and/ or equivalent
- Registered HPCSA Counsellor and/ or Industrial Psychologist
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Drivers License
- Required to travel to various regions in South Africa
